its a great idea but when it comes down to the competitive part of it, its all comes down to how the band present itself and tune at that moment of being judged and not what country the band is from. Listen to the name of the arrangers and also the tuners, then too maybe the pannists also. Anyway, I enjoyed listening to the bands being a lover of the steelband. Its an addiction.

Hello Vine, I want to thank you for bringing Panorama World Cup, I am sure that you have started a great tradition that we will all be looking forward to each year. The people who criticize because the event was not perfectly organized from the beginning, are the same people who do nothing themselves but wait for others to take chances with innovative ideas. P replies Knolly, I think that you have misunderstood the concept of the PW-C. 1. I don't understand why you suggesting that that it should include winners from the last 5 years; Panoramas take place on an annual basis and the idea is to compare the winners of all world-wide competitions for that year. 2. How can the numbers be limited to 50 players? Phase II aren't going to enter a Panorama competition with 50 players. Numbers don't make for good music anyway! 3. Entries from your named bands would only apply if they WON the panorama for that year. The clue is in the title: Panorama World Cup. i.e. The best (Winner) from that country, represents their country, just like the FIFA World Cup. 4. No other country, except Trinidad & Tobago, has the Medium and Small band category. 5. There was difficulty in getting recordings of the 4 winners for this PW-C. Hopefully Vine will get contacts from other countries to get Panorama winners recordings from those countries. 6. Send 3 judges to different steelband countries? Who is going to pay for that? If you find a sponsor, count me in!!! 7. I can see your point about how internet access availability can skew the results, but I hope, albeit naively, that the listeners will listen to the tunes and vote for the tune they think is the best, not through blind band loyalty. Also, do you think that only players and band supporters of the 4 bands will be voting? 8. I don’t understand your correlation between making a first impression and the Montréal Panorama and your ominous prediction regarding first steps. People keep forgetting it's not about the size of the band, it's about the music. Size never matters. At at several battles in history, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and 313 Muslims against over 1000 troops, and who won? The whole point of this competition is for us to see the different levels at which pan is at around the world. Each band has their own style of arranging music. Silver Stars and Salah's Steelpan Academy both chose the same song and look at the different renditions. That is what makes a panorama so great! So if you want to keep comparing the size of the band then go ahead, but can you see the 100 players vs 30? Music is music, and its the best arrangements that leaves a mark on pan lovers around the world. Vote for the Music! I voted for Salah's Steelpan Academy not because it has 30 players but because in my opinion, the ARRANGEMENT is the best! Jamal Spence Bass

member88 replies It seems everyone is forgetting that Salah's steelpan Academy are PANORAMA CHAMPS just like the other 3 PANORAMA CHAMPS(in each respective country) and are not just "a band of 30 players". Also, the size of the band has no argumentative backing: they met the competition sizing requirements, they DID beat out 13 other bands each with 60+ players, in Toronto...for THREE years in a row. I played with the winning band from uk...EBONY....i dont do disrespect in any forum so what im saying is not a cuss to any band....trinidad is the home of pan and therfore is gonna produce some amazing pan music and performances every year....the uk scene is rapidly developing a new generation of talented new pannists and canada seems a little behind the uk....if you ask me ebony have the best overall rounded sound and i love pan sonatas arrangement....its a contest of who is publicising the rama to their friends....not on the music which is a bit of a let down....ebony had about 60 players compared to US and Trini who have 100.....ebony aint that far behind whats going on in trini?!

You bore me. You are talking about Panorama, and the first thing you introduce is a calypso The internet is a click and go entity. People don't want to waist time on trifle. You want to produce a show on the internet, and that's a lot of time. Just the facts (that is just the bands)! All that was needed was 2 minutes of each band to enable listeners to determine the best sound. Then you had to do with the American anthem – are you kidding?

I hope this venture will expand to include every Steelband Panorama on Planet Pan and even capture the performances live via Pan TV. Since many Panoramas are held at different times within the year, media coverage can be cordinated with the different international medias to make this vibrant and marketable for sponsors....

Obviously a contest of which country has a greater distribution. Trinidad has a least 8 bands better than anything the other countries have to offer, Salah's band has about 30 players. How do you compare that to over 100 players to even qualify for Trinidad panorama.

If you really want to stage a Panorama World Cup, lets all meet head on and not the internet. I have been told that dozens of people are voting without even hearing a single note from each band. Maybe this was the planned purpose for Silver Stars not allowed to perform their Rendition of First In De Line, at that Toronto Panorama Competition. In all fairness, Salah doesn't even come close to Ebony, and this is the little league for Silver Stars, so I think this exercise ought to be scrapped. LET'S STAGE THIS PHYSICALLY!!!!!!!!!

vine replies Some people probably are voting through loyalty reasons, without listening. My experience has showed me that there are people who think their band is the best without listening to the other bands at their respective Rama's. What happened in Toronto this year was way out of our control. as for staging this physically, well why not!!!!! Please remember people, this is the first time this has been done! There is bound to be a few teethng problems, which I am sure Vine will try and address the next time the Panorama World Cup is held. Bill Gates is still trying to sort out Windows for goodness sake! I have raised my own concerns with regard to content, audio quality etc, but I cannot fault the concept! How many of us can get to all these Panoramas in one year? How many of us heard Salah Steelpan Academys' 2009 rendition live or recorded? I know that there are issues about listening to recordings on the net or otherwise, but there are also issues listening to the tunes on 'de night' as well! VOTE!

I attened NY panorama and Canada's. I noticed the amplified band is leading the way and the next better recorded band is in second. IMHO Poor recording of the best pan tune will always result in skewed opinions. On that note the best sounding band is the Canada band which might I point out was small and amplified.

I received this format of voting from a colleague of mine and as one who is keen on steelband competition, there is no need for me to be listening to Fay Anne Lyons and other atrists if the purpose is to judge a steelband competition. This is especially true if there is nothing musical to be gained (from my perspective) from audio on the Internet that has so many shortcomings. I thought I was going to be judging a competition, but having heard three pieces of music that have nothing to do with the competition, I may not participate because too much time has gone by.
